The theory is simple, it is a 90 degree rotated polarizing layer, How comfortable you are doing surgery on the delicate LCD assembly is another matter. If I were to do it I think I would buy a couple cheap watches to practice on first. And Opinion: I wear a factory blackout casio, I like it because it does not have all that great 80's casio text all over the place (I am not sure what is wrong with me) but a downside…

My watch isn't super expensive but it's a gift so it would be a shame to ruin it. The idea of practising on a cheaper model sounds good, thanks.

For a very long time, China and India used a mixture of the 12-hour and 24-hour formats, which meant they had to convert the time or switch between time formats multiple times par day. That was the intended use of this button. Both countries have now officially switched to the 24-hour format.

I'd guess that the very large majority of people don't know that americans use 12h time, no. Why would they?

It is a bit strange, like being surprised some countries drive on the left side. xkcd 1053 of course, but people are still allowed to be surprised when someone went their entire life without picking up a fairly common factoid.

Even cheap quartz movements tend to drift by ±10 seconds per year , so you'd only really set it at dst. Maybe you're thinking about automatic watches which can drift by several seconds per day, and stop if you don't use it for 24/48/X amount hours. I have to set my automatic quite frequently

±10 seconds per year would be quite an expensive quartz movement. To be that reliable anywhere it should be thermocompensated, too. This is the range of Grand Seiko 9F, Citizen Chronomaster, or Bulova Precisionist.

Amazing! I was proud that my OnePlus smartwatch needs recharging only once every 5 days, but 2 years is unbelievable. The difference is partly due to the LED screen of my smartwatch, LCD is much more energy efficient.
