I don't really seem to be sent very much unfiltered AI output - do other people? I'd love to hear horror stories.
I've seen it on HN, such as comments where someone asked a question about some animal's habitat, and someone else responded back with Claude's answer (labeling it as such). Personally, I thought the AI answer was helpful in the absence of anyone else providing a better source link (which would have been better, sure, but apparently me and everyone else who saw the question couldn't be bothered to go research it/report back).
I agree that AI text 1) should always be labeled, 2) can sometimes be bad, and 3) real sources/writing are better.
A common retort is "If we wanted an AI answer we could have asked the AI" - maybe, but A) realistically most of us aren't even going to switch contexts in a case like that to go ask an AI about the animal's habitat (even easier than googling), even if we may be interested in the answer, and B) Instead of having every user use a tiny bit of electricity, etc. to generate duplicate AI answers, we can do it once.
