Both of their legal teams utilized bots to drive online discussions[1][2] Neither of these sources support this claim as none of them include any discussion on Amber Heard('s legal team) using bots?

Indeed, seeing how slanted online discussion was, I suspect one side had many more bots, and I'm not sure if the other side had any.

For those interested, Neal Stephenson writes about this in _Anathem_, where there is an arcane technical class (the I.T. Administration) that has developed programs over the years to sift through the misinformation, sentient viruses, and general overrun of the Internet to determine what is probably true/accurate.

He writes about it in Fall, or; Dodge in hell! The Miasma; the workaround is personalized filters (or generic ones for those who can't afford the personal ones). This leads to societal consequences.

(I never put together the ITA as that; wow!)

No one is doing it as much as Israel does, Russia's influence campaigns are well documented, often weak, lack the "forcefulness" you see when it comes to Israel.

The thing is that messaging from Russia, China, Arab countries ... have to be very subtle else it's visible and immediately gets called out.

Israel on the other hand sees itself as part of the collective west and think they have the right to be as laud as they want and everyone has to listen.

it's fundamentally about who's talking and who's the audience.

for example Israel does run lots of influence campaigns in Arabic as well, but they're also more quite and more understanding that it's not their main audience.

I'm kind of hopeful AI some wikipedia-inspired AI "oracle" will happen in the future. Why not use some central AI to separate fact from fiction (faster than trolls and griefers can come to muddy the debate).

Possibly, but is an LLM is capable of this?

I mean, a big RAG setup with a smart LLM ought to do it, right? Or even just locally provided knowledge database - given the size of LLMs, what's a clone of wikipedia and whatever else you'd need?

I think mods are asleep, an anti-Israeli post can't stay on the homepage for this long.

I think there is a huge shift in hackernews as of late (as other mainstream media as well) where such discussions happen, not necessary encouraged.

I'm shocked to see the difference between 2023 and today.

And a 1,277,500 in ten years! Except no where did he say that this is the plan until the end of days, or until the end of the year. He said what he think Israel should do now. Again, to clarify, I do not support him nor wish for any of his plans to become real, and I'm deeply said and ashmed of every plan of his that did become real. What I was commenting on what about what he said, though, which is already a deviati…

How long has this war been going on? A year is a totally realistic time frame if you evaluate his words.

I'm sorry, but what does the current length of the war has to do with this? During an armed conflict one can be asked what they think needs to be done, and it doesn't mean that this is what they think needs to be done even one week from now. And again, even if he thinks so, it is clearly not what he said. If we're trying to guess what Ben Gvir really wants, I can only agree he probably wants terrible things. If we're talking about what is said on Israeli TV, then that's simply not what was said and I'd like to believe that it's not something the general public would accept.

I'm confused as to what the accusation is exactly. Out of curiosity I browsed the site in question, which only increased my confusion. > But the Hanover Institute is not a real think tank. What does that mean exactly? > None of the reports have bylines The site actually addresses this at https://hanoverinstitute.com/hanover/about : Reports are published under the Institute’s name rather than an individual’s. That is…

The accusation is that Israel is doing it , therefore the content is pro-Israel, therefore it is bad.

nice try guys, no need to generate confusion also here, the purpose target and implementations are very clear from the article and the actors behind even more.

please do not pollute this thread with misinformation too.

I don’t support Netanyahu, and so does close to 50% of Israelis. Qatar is spreading fake information and is funding Hamas as well as anti-Israel classes in major US colleges. If you don’t trust Netanyahu then you should disregard the link you shared as well and that just strengthens my point.

The amount of selective outrage directed at Jews, Israel and "Zionists" is proof to me that the fake information campaigns are super duper effective and I'd say dangerously effective. I have friends who are generally psychotically outraged with Israelis and some how just pretend all Israelis are scum / should be "disposed of" or something, and they should "go back to Europe". I have friends who are generally psychotically outraged with Israelis and some how just pretend all Israelis are scum / should be "disposed of" or something, and they should "go back to Europe".

It is so effective, because they make such an easy target of themselves all the time. Anyone following the news and thinking a bit and maybe also keeping track of their crimes, could easily believe any claims about any additional crimes Israel is engaging in. Their own behavior makes it very easy to believe they have done even more terrible crimes.

Escalation of conflicts into wars with any neighbor country, that isn't on a tree by the count of 3. Assassinations of disliked individuals, regardless of in which country they reside, just like Russia did in the UK. Inhumane treatment of prisoners. Incredible discrimination of their neighbors. Supporting violent and armed mobs, to rob people of their homes. Illegal expansion of territory.

I mean, with that sort of track record, there is not much we wouldn't believe they are capable of. And then you have completely delusional people online, who go maximalist in their attitude, trying to defend all of that and trying to lay claim to all the territory that Israel would love to conquer. That's basically the Zionists. I don't see how they are not loath-worthy, and I also haven't yet seen something like a "mild, non-maximalist Zionist", who would convince me of "not all Zionists are bad".

> I see almost zero concern for people of Sudan, North Korea, Russia, Ukraine, Uighurs, Detained US immigrants etc and I'd say zero anger towards these people's oppressors, as if they are just "good guys misunderstood".

That's because in some of those cases there is little influence that "the West" has. I do think, that you are grouping quite uneven situations there though.

Sudan: Inner country turmoil, civil war and militias. What exactly do you expect others to do? March in?

North Korea: Eh, well, a crazy dictatorship, armed with nuclear weapons and ballistic missiles. At least they stay contained in their own country mostly, when they are not sending meat to Russia.

Russia: It is being dealt with by Ukraine and its supporters. They are f'ed for the coming decades and maybe will even crumble under the looming economic crisis. All because their dictator couldn't help but invade a neighbor and doubles down infinitely.

Ukraine: But the West _does_ do something about it? I mean, did you follow the news the last couple of years? Ukraine's supporters are everywhere!

Uighurs: What exactly _is_ the situation? Have you visited Xinjiang?

US immigrants: How are they comparable with all the other situations you have mentioned?

> but I just cannot some how get totally outraged about one specific cause and neglect all the rest.

Then you have an eternity of feeling bad ahead of you. We have so many crisis and bad situations and crimes against humanity ongoing on this planet, that you will never be not outraged. I don't think we can "demand" outrage from others. A human only can show they care about so much. Gotta pick your battles.

Is there any writing outside of your recollection that says the Heard side was using bots? Afaik all reporting suggested it was one sided, and not her side
