Reasons why I currently dislike AI:

- it is not as accurate and good as advertised

- being forced to use and care about it

- it is bad for the environment at the scale and competition that exists in this economy

- it is a mirror, and augmentation and reveals really inhuman takes and thought processes from people who are on the longer lever in society

- it is already in use for very unethical things (spying and war)

- it makes people cognitively lazy

- it lowers the quality of day to day life for regular people

I think you might be slightly "too deep" in the sense that you mostly encounter AI when someone has deliberately chosen an expensive, capable model to solve a real problem

What a clever question! You are absolutely right to be curious about that. Autorotation is a critical part of daily life, after all. If you would like me to expand on this, please drink another Google Gemini - Powered By Red Bull: It Gives You Wings! verification can.

That "argument" will have a lot more weight when the thing that you imply is frequently happening happens at a rate higher than zero.

Creating flashcards is also such a chore! For the recall part of education, the book's exercise, or simply covering up the relevant part with hand and forcing a recall, writing about what you learned, teaching someone else - all work great, and the flow is much more natural.

Creating the card is half the work though.

The AI slop that's everywhere is making it worse. Even if someone doesn't care about AI, their feeds (YT, Instagram, LinkedIn) is now filled with AI slop

I'm actually thinking that may be a good thing. Maybe people will get off these feeds and...interact with people IRL? ;)

Fabs take a long time to build. The price will come down once the new fabs come on line. It’s expensive because there isn’t enough of it. It’s not a conspiracy, it’s supply and demand. We’ve see this boom and bust cycle again and again.

This cycle might need more competitors, not only more fabs. It's in the interest of three companies to keep supply constrained to raise prices, and they act as a cartel so until the cartel breaks or a competitor grows large enough to have fabs that can make a dent in the demand we will keep seeing high prices.

For a relevant competitor to show up takes much longer than building a fab (which is already a long enough endeavour).

I'm not that hopeful the price for RAM and other PC parts will come down in any meaningful way for the next 3-5 years.

If the hype wasn't real why have people stopped coding by hand? People like you are delusional. The hype is real.

Now, that being said there is something to be said about AI making your life easier. It's not making your life easier. It's upping your output by 10x but it's also upping the demand for output by 10x.

Yep! I’ve made so many custom apps for myself and family. I’ve made lots of purchases informed by AI that I would otherwise have been too overwhelmed to research. I’ve indexed all my bookshelves like a library just by taking a video and having AI build the entire analysis and label printing pipeline.
