ads like whats on facebook have no such accountability, and facebook doesnt take accountability for what its algorithm pushes in the name of getting a higher click through rate.

The point you are raising is a non sequitur to theirs. The fact that you can do these things without Facebook is not mutually exclusive with others using Facebook with the same intentions.

No, not a traditional one. You would render the entire page in your server, remove the ads, copy the modified html and your client would get ad free copy. You are not blocking anything in the traditional sense. Ask claude to do it, it works.

I check it once a month or three. Boomer relatives still use it and so it's nice to see their updates once in a while. I've also heard good things about Marketplace, but don't use it myself because I fear my lame would-be for sale posts would end up on friends' feeds and it would be mortifying if people I know in real life thought I used Facebook.

they can require ad and sponsor-free copies of videos to be uploaded in order to get YT premium revenue.

they control the platform. that they choose not to make the premium experience ad free is up to them

I want to take the opportunity to thank the maintainers of uBlock Origin for their outstanding work. The internet would be hell without you.

And Facebook just showed (again) they are willing to go the extra mile to be as contemptible and repugnant as possible.
