#222The only way to keep ads off Facebook is to stop using Facebook.
If you're still using Facebook, it's because you're required to or you're the kind of person who won't be fazed by this.

I got a facebook account because I wanted to use marketplace. I just use one of those CSS browser plugins to hide the newsfeed which is where all the ads pop up. The following does the trick for me: [role=main] { display: none; } I also don't have any friends on it.

#224I haven't been on Facebook for years Why are people on anything meta or musk? Then again I figured we'd be back to personal blogs by now since "AI" can set one up in seconds

#225I wrote and shared uBlock Origin filters for Facebook, shared on Reddit and up to a week later they changed the DOM structure bypassed the filters. After some attempts I no longer publish the filters.

#226I know this is probably a very naive question, but what is the end goal putting so much effort into getting past ad blockers? Surely, someone with an ad blocker installed is not going to click on their ads and buy the advertised products anyway. I don't really know what I am talking about, but I guess it's all about ad impressions that generate money, but doesn't this strategy end up making less money, because the mo…
You don't actually need to click on an ad or purchase something from an ad site in order for Facebook to make money selling ad space. Marketplace has video ads that play with sound as you scroll by now. It's incredible
Re: uBlock Origin is giving up the fight to keep ads off Facebook
#228Controversial opinion: This entire thread reads like a game of cat-and-mouse. People trying to block intrusive ads, and FB reaching into the depths of code and making it nearly impossible for anyone to do so en masse. I've been there. Tried to uncheck all the boxes on their ad platform; used all manners of ad blockers, etc; used incognito mode; used Tor; etc. etc. etc. At some point, you realize that the only way to…

#229Assuming you insist on using facebook you can proxy it, using a simple script that removes all ads prior to serving. The problem of course is that this is not cheap. Easier to just not use facebook.
I'm keen to see this simple script, and to understand why it's simple given that ublock origin finds it hard.
The issue is facebook obfuscates selectors so you cant easily do it the way ublock prefers.
