I think the cringiest are people talking about their cancer or their divorce, and how it helped them realize an insight about B2B sales.

That... happens???

There are posts to that effect.

How many of them source to real humans, though... who can tell anymore.

That number is certainly non-zero, though. To a first approximation every stupid thing you can imagine happens. But it may not happen as much as the bot engagement army makes you think it does.

That's what the words say, how much of it is authentic is still a mystery to me.

Basically a bunch of sales, business consultants and HR people developed their own language and took over LinkedIn. They know it's bullshit, we know it's bullshit, but apparently there's enough money to be made doing this that it's worth the time. A couple of people I went to high school with dropped regular corporate jobs to do this stuff, and I know they're too smart to take it all literally.

I can only imagine it's like the famous Mackenzie interview, where they ask you to explain something you can't possibly know and judge you on how persuasive your bullshit is. They're all just showing off their sleazy salesmanship/thought leadership/persuasive abilities and through that conveying some sort of value, and presumably more productive conversations happen offline as a result.

I frequently post on LinkedIn, on topics related to AI, startups, open source, etc. I try to have a pragmatic and realistic take and don't use AI to write the posts. I find that just by not being cringe, obviously AI or obviously over the top sales-y makes the posts stand out and raise my (consulting) profile enough to land a meaningful number of clients, just as a second-order effect. Lately I've been even more anno…

Why are you putting content on such platforms? Honestly. Do you realize that you are giving content for free to an already enshittified and closed platform? Open a blog where everyone can read freely without to have an account in one of the worst platforms out there. Or is it to be popular that you post there?

What's the percentage of people that will read a post embedded in the site vs clicking a link to another site?

Sure, I think it strange that these posters are posting directly into a site rather than writing locally and then copy/paste into the site so that the data on the site is no longer the only copy. But YOLO is real I guess

I think you can get your posts out as part of a data export, if you request one. I just did that and I can see my (very few) posts in the Shares csv.

Earlier quoted context omitted.

I may or may not have instructed Claude to built me a LinkedIn Bot that creates posts for predefined topics, comments and likes others posts and scarpes the page for jobs. Let's say a minority on LinkedIn actually reads the content others post, so my reach and impressions are continually growing without me doing anything on that cesspool of a social app. Thanks AI, I guess.

So basically LinkedIn is now MoltBook [0]. [0]: https://moltsbooks.com/

It's far worse, LinkedIn is now middle management people cosplaying as experts puppeteered by LLMs.

What's the point?

There is none.

That's why engineers are usually bad marketers (And I'm including myself there) and their technically sophisticated side project goes nowhere because they don't know where their potential clients hang out or they think doing marketing is "cringe".

If you are the best consultant but you don't tell anyone about it, you'll not have many clients. In this case it's not about what you think is the best and most pure platform, but where your potential customers are hanging out.

Nope. I tried both the data export (I'm in the EU) and looked at the API they provide. I was able to export articles (which I don't do), but not posts.

You're a good follow there. To escape the walled garden, I've ran a script to download all posts (JS to scroll down my feed, wait for the lazy loading, click on all "more..." links, wait for the lazy loading again, everything in a loop, then download the entire thing when there are no more posts). Then ran another script to convert those to blog posts, then posted them on my personal site.

Yeah I basically did that, just with Claude Code and Playwright. It's a fickle setup, LinkedIn keeps trying to block it so there's a bunch of manual work to re-login, Claude sometimes misses a few posts, etc.

Doable but annoying.

I do, too.

My rule of thumb for anything longer than two paragraphs is publish on my personal blog first and then use LinkedIn's scheduling feature to post it in the future (LinkedIn gives you a 3 month window, but you can reschedule indefinitely)
