> Putting on my atheist hat for a minute What is atheist about your comment? Nothing I can see. God has a plan for us does not contradict the evolutionary factors.

A lot of non-atheists are also vocally opposed to, say, teaching evolution in schools. It's easy to see how someone might think atheists typically believe in something that does contradict evolution.

I get where it comes from, but it is a very narrow view of the world. Its only really "a lot of non-atheists" in the US and maybe parts of the Middle East, and even then its not a majority of them AFAIK.

While cultures tend to have different standards of attractiveness, weight is most definitely, objectively related to health. If you care about having a healthy partner, you should probably care about their weight.

The same is true of long hair supposedly (hair displays a record of illness). Does someone's attractiveness inherently change after a crew cut?

I’d venture that attractiveness does change after a haircut, with the degree of change being subjective. Does anyone truly think your hairstyle and length is not tied to your appearance?

I am curious why is height important? Understandably, income affects the lifestyle and opportunities, but what does height affect? What changes if you are several inch taller or shorter? I cannot understand. Also, why those who care about height so much do not go for basketball players? Also, the picture with income graph says "household income", not "personal income".

I feel bad for Paul Simon—probably never got laid.

There’s solid humor in here, being that he once married Carrie Fisher - the sex symbol for a generation of nerds.

I think even religious people who believe in evolution (and non-religious people who were socialized into religious ideas) are sometimes uncomfortable applying evolutionary concepts to pair coupling in humans specifically.

I'm not saying you are one, but using this kind of language really makes you sound like a full on incel misogynist, who has sublimated his sexual frustration into antiquated paternalistic views of women's sexuality. But I'm sure that's not accurate.

I'll say it.

So I'm an actual "6/6/6"... and I also have a statistics degree. This was absolutely hilarious to read! I will say that I've seen multiple definitions of the 666 rule where the last 6 represents either penis length or a 6-pack. From personal experience, I will say that maintaining a 6 pack makes you much more desirable in the eyes of women than, uh, the other option. I'm also not much of a dater, but my friends alway…

For a well earning man with a white collar job, keeping a six pack requires a large amount of time away from work. So it probably is a good proxy measure for quite a few desirable character traits, such as diligence and discipline.

Maintaining abs doesn’t necessarily require a ton of work time-wise, but does require you exercise consistently and closely watch what you eat. I used to have very visible abs and honestly it didn’t feel worth it. I like bread too much!

There's this West Wing scene where Toby's asking Josh how he gets women and he says "the smart, funny thing... plus I have the boyish thing", and Toby says "I don't have that" (he does not). It's pretty sad that we're reducing this stuff to physical... and financial attributes, most of which you have very little control over. What's the effect of low-key narcissism on these scores, or great sense of humor, or selfishness, or kindness?

1. The issue with multiplying the probability/rarity of each is they are actually positively correlated -- Taller people have bigger parts (sorry I can't google to confirm on work laptop rn), and Taller people have higher salaries.

2. I've heard a variant of the "rule" (of thumb) that is six 6's . 6 pack abs, 6' tall, 6" below, 6 figures, 6 months (or more) single, 600+ HP car. This is sometimes pushed around by guys doing the very human thing of overweighting their own biologically driven selection criteria biases and assuming women choose the same way as they do. If you're a man reading this remember that women are naturally driven by 2 forces in selection, which are unfortunately called Alpha and Beta by the internet (though they should not connote superior and inferior). You can fit into the other category of being a great partner via connection, father traits (intelligence, support, kindness), being funny (also intelligence), and connecting on shared interests. Thankfully women tend to select from a large bucket of desires, unlike the testosterone driven visual selection that men trend towards which really causes a lot of trouble for women who bring a lot to the table but not "that".

All such data is a _little_ dubious, as it's pretty much always opt-in, and there'd always be a question of whether you have a fair sample.

If anything, that would lead one to assume that it over estimates typical length.

Eh, you can imagine it going either way; maybe someone who’s worried about it is more likely to sign up for a dick measuring study?

There’s so much psychological baggage here that I’d be really suspicious of any stats. The Kinsey Report famously found that gay men were almost half an inch bigger than straight men, and for a while that lead to a lot of speculation around sexuality being driven by maternal hormonal differences, but I think these days it’s pretty much accepted that it was probably just selection bias (that bit of the study was optional).

> Men want to know that the children they raise are their own. You realize that the number (>0) of prior sexual partners has nothing to do with the parentage of one's children, right? You can marry a virgin and still be a cuckold; or you can marry a prostitute and sire a large family.
