BEING fun and confident matters. Saying you are is, well, not fun or confident. A friend of mine, well below 6 feet, once had a dating profile where he went into a weird tangent about loving mac and cheese. A weird, sexual and hilarious tangent, where he started arguing with you, the reader, about why are we still talking about this? I said I never had sex with a bowl of mac and cheese! It was classic and he got a to…

Rich and handsome 6'4" men have no problem standing out. This is the point. Online dating does not suck for them. Your goofy friend might get lots of updoots on reddit but if he's short and broke it would be immediately reject him. They will never even see his mac and cheese bio. Online dating would be a waste of time for him at best; at worst, kiss goodbye to this delusional confidence once the crushing reality mani…

That's what I'm trying to help you understand. My goofy friend was plowing a trail of pussy through NYC at that time with his fun and confident antics. Below 6 feet and definitely not rich back then.

There's a point past this where racking up a number is hollow and meaningless but that's beside the point right now. The thing I'm trying to tell you is that you can have a better and more positive personality even if you can't grow 6 inches. And that better personality is not some incel shit or "negging" or whatever.

If none of this makes sense to you, look up Stavros Halkias on youtube and compare his looks to his general confidence and attitude.

I am curious why is height important? Understandably, income affects the lifestyle and opportunities, but what does height affect? What changes if you are several inch taller or shorter? I cannot understand. Also, why those who care about height so much do not go for basketball players? Also, the picture with income graph says "household income", not "personal income".

There was a service called Baller Alert (the name seems to be ungooglable now) that would stalk basketball players and send announcements whenever they were spotted in clubs/bars just so the women could try to flirt with them. https://duckduckgo.com/?t=ffab&q=baller+alert+30+for+30+brok...

What does weight affect? Breast size? Hair color? Cultures create an archetype of attractiveness and then everyone feels like they come up short. Tale as old as time.

There is nowhere in the known universe where the average woman is taller than the average man. Therefore, women will tend to select mates who are taller than themselves. It’s not a cultural phenomenon, it’s universal.

> I am curious why is height important? It's a common aesthetic preference, similar to liking large breasts. > Also, why those who care about height so much do not go for basketball players? Some of them certainly do. But there aren't very many professional basketball players.

So for example, a 6 feet tall nerdy-looking geek is better than 5' 6" athlete or celebrity? Doesn't seem logical to me.

Could be, depends on the woman and what she values. Celebrities are usually in a league of their own. The way you have to see it, is that women look for a certificate of potential for success (and many other things, but this is one of them). Since being tall is generally desirable in society, it acts as such a certificate. It is definitely not the only trait or circumstance that acts as such, but it is pretty much impossible to fake.

The reason why height is so important, is because it serves as a proxy for strength, potential for dominance, and protective capacity. Women feel safe from the world and other men, when they are with a tall man (assuming they also feel safe from him). The circular effect of this is that tall men are seen as a successful archetype from all the attention and resources they get, which inflates their true sexual value. Probably social media and internet has a big hand in this too.

Apart from BMI, what is the female equivalent?

Depends on what the goal is.

If it's just dating or a one night stand I think men can sometimes have potentially no standards at all.

If it's about marriage then there's things like hip to waist ratio, facial symmetry but I think in general men are much less picky.

Exact opposite of the point they made, brother. Worth a reread and think depending on your headspace.

Guys let’s not pretend that him being taller and more stereotypically handsome would’ve hurt his “achievements”.

It would’ve of course helped.

The fact that height and stereotypical beauty standards are not the only things that matter does not change that on average they have a significant positive impact.

It's all relative. You're gonna need to be even bigger in the netherlands, both in height and salary to impress a dutch woman if you're dutch already. In south east asia you may get away with less height and money.

Not in salary though, given that the salaries in TFA are local to the US, and West European salaries are lower, as a rule (East European salaries, of course, even lower).

What an American makes in absolute terms is irrelevant unless you're planning to move to the US.

And if you're planning to move to the US, then its still irrelevant, because what matters is how much you make in US compared to the cost of living of the US.

Nobody would trade making 40k net in Italy for making 80k net in US, you're actually poorer (and not just financially).

All measures are relative. Absolute wages have stopped being impressive as the world got richer in the last decades and standards of living improved.

Also of note the income data is combined household income (2 incomes for a married couple) and over the entire population (including 40+ later-career incomes). It's likely significantly over predicting how common $100k yearly income is among the 20-35 year old "dating pool". Though probably balanced out some by being 10 year old data by now.

Buuut it's from 2014, and in case you didn't notice there was quite a bit of inflation between 2014 and now. Back in 2014 the share of household incomes earning more than 99,999 was 34.5 in 2024 it was 42.8

Probably what was meant by "Though probably balanced out some by being 10 year old data by now."

I worked with a short, partially bald guy, but he could charm the socks off any girl. Pretty sure; he didn't care a wit for 6/6/6.

I worked with a many short men, some of them bald. I mean, STEM, tech, hello, tends to be a big chunk of the demographic. They consistently underperformed when it came to charming women. Tall nerds tended to swoop up the few women on campus.
