The consumption of energy and the pollution of water sources. Some people living next to Data Centers have an $ 850-a-month electric bill because the Data Center uses so much power that it increases the rate due to shortages. Also, all of the debt used to fund Data Centers is creating an AI Bubble that might pop soon.

The cost of memory being sky high, and the cost of all tech items going up with it with the result that many people no longer have the same enthusiasm for those AI models like they had two 2 1/2 years ago when OpenAI gave their public presentation with Sam Altman, Ilya Sutskever and Mira Murati on stage at that event, doesn’t mean AI won’t be part of the computer future, but they (AI) was never higher than at that time everything seemed possible. Reality has come to the table.

The way I understand it is that these datacenters intrude in the lives of many in rural areas, have a massive environmental impact at least at local level, and will also be used to basically replace human work.

So the average Joe doesn't feel like he's getting much out of it.

In 10 years there's going to be an explosion of indoor skate and bike parks, maybe moto tracks, and everybody loves those in their backyard. I can't wait!

or, roll three dice for an implosion engineered by the companies that needed them in the first place.
