Microsoft didn't buy Xbox, they built the entire ecosystem themselves...

Ok, but they bought DOS. They bought MSSQL (Sybase). They stole half of OS/2 and then pivoted to Windows NT with ex DEC folks. Its biggest products were all (mostly) bought. Oh yeah, Halo.

You're cherry picking. They built Windows. They built Office. They built Azure. Windows Phone (RIP). Exchange. Sharepoint. Visual Studio. Bing.

Every big company has a raft of acquisitions in their history and if you really want to you can draw a tenuous line between an acquisition and a subsequent product line. The claim that Microsoft "fundamentally doesn't make anything, they never have" is just silly.

Sounds like an opportunity then for you to create a competing company that functions the way you feel it should function. If that's what people value, you'll take all the business since you're the only one offering it.

You have to be delusional if you think you are in that class that can spin up an xbox competitor

Didn't Nex Playground pretty much just do that? I saw them on display last time I went to Costco, and they apparently outsold Xbox during last year's Black Friday sales.

Reading on tea leaves has more credibility and substance than your “analysis”.

Please provide a rebuttal. 4 years from a marketing role they were in out of college at Microsoft to VP Product and Engineering at Meta?

No. You made claims, it’s your job to provide evidence. And you already contradict yourself - per your message she was 2 years at ms, and then 4 years at startup.

Honestly, I hate defending multimillionaire and get that to climb that fast at those companies anybody needs to be, most likely, ruthless corporate warrior. But you just throw claims and sound like a baseless hater.

The Era of the Gamecube, Xbox, and PS2 will forever be the best in terms of consumer value and choice and commitment to quality, followed by the Xbox360 Ps3 gen....Its been boiling the frog since end of PS4 and on, but I got out of the water by the PS5...xbox was boiled long ago and were the first to turn up the temp

We shouldn't ever forget the sweet spot of the Game Boy Advance SP (proudly exclaimed "plays all games" on its box, and that wasn't a lie) and the original model of the PS3 which had full BC for every previous generation. It's such a shame how far things have fallen since. The Switch 2 is an amicable modern day effort, but still, the industry has gotten much pricklier for the average consumer. Not to mention prices t…

Xbox is in complete disarray because none of the people in charge seem like people who have played a single video game ever.

I don't think it's played; it's that idiots brought low-margin businesses into a high-margin enterprise b2b saas company (that exploits a monopoly too) and are shocked that gaming is not going to give you 30% or higher margins. Nintendo is super disciplined and a bad year for Microsoft margin-wise is one of Nintendo's best. If Nintendo can't regularly hit 30% margins, nobody can, and certainly (as you say) people who…

Yeah. Xbox is profitable despite how terrible it is in terms of game exclusives, just not 30% profit margins profitable. Instead of focusing on that they buy studios to close them and then wonder why they don’t have better margins.

Yeah, they've been explaining away inflation for decades by averaging housing with electronics. Yes your rent has tripled, but your TV is also 3 times as big and your gamebox has 1000 times the CPU so really, things have only gotten 2% more expensive, says the CPI calculation. Now the politicians don't even have that excuse. I suppose they'll have to add AI tokens to CPI. Used to cost $1000 each, now $0.000002 each,…

There is a limit on production efficiency, life is full of logistic curves which feel exponential at first until the inflection and leveling off phases. It's going to hurt when agriculture does not see the efficiency gains it has been receiving for the last century or so. We might be at the inflection or leveling off now.

Sure, but this particular issue isn't because we're hitting some plateau on computer cost or performance efficiency where instead of paying less money for more performance like we've gotten used to you're paying the same to get similar performance.

Instead for probably the first time in the history of computing devices as a consumer product, you're paying significantly more money to get the same thing you could have paid much less for months or years ago. If you bought a computer in 2025, it's unexpectedly an appreciating asset.

Both the fact she spent 2 years at MS as a Marketing employee out of college and 4 years after she left MS she was VP at Facebook are true simultaneously, check the Wikipedia link I sourced.

Office started as MS Works, which was a continuation of an Apple product by ex-Apple employees.

> Microsoft Works originated as MouseWorks, an integrated spreadsheet, word processor, and database program, designed for the Macintosh by ex-Apple employee Don Williams and Rupert Lissner.

Modern Windows was fractions of OS/2 (failed partnership with IBM), ex-DEC folks made the kernel (Win 9X is a failed lineage) and MS copying the Mac.

Your examples while grand, don't paint a picture of a company that does a lot of in-house innovation. You got me with Sharepoint, something to be proud of. Oh and Teams.
