True. It is the number one tool for big corporations, particularly the big three record monopolists, to assure their rents, and a major income stream for many law firms. It even helps defend the interest of these people agains musicians. As a musician myself I analyzed the financial report of the collecting society here in Switzerland and it became obvious that the probability of achieving an income as a composer significantly above the poverty line is less than 0.1% (compare that with the probability of getting hurt in a traffic accident which is around 0.2%). And only 1/6 of the collected money goes to individual artists. 5/6 goes to companies/labels and administration/legal cost. Socialists should fight against monopolies, not even support the interests of "the big three". But the longer I observe it, the more surreal reality becomes.
