Last retreat I went on the CFO drove drunk around 350 miles to get there. The CEO insisted on heavy drinking for everyone. Then he ordered one of everything on the menu the next morning at a Cracker Barrel for himself and wasted a ton of food. I found out he had a cocaine addiction about a month before the company was acquired. They also had orgies in the office break rooms and gave out a machete to everyone as a Chr…

Reminds me of the tik tok of the guy who just starts giving out new machetes in packages to homeless people.

Your company, your coworkers, are not your friends. HR is not there for you, it's to protect the company from you. Do not disclose personal information to those who control your livelihood. Once you leave or if you build up a personal relationship with a coworker, outside of work, then maybe. Even still. I will never divulge what I have been through simply because corporate wants to be "inclusive".

The workplace is one of the best places to find your spouse. It's where you spend most of your time and where you're most likely to meet someone with similar interests to you in the same location. It's anti-human to treat the workplace as this clinical saferoom with no relationships.

Workplaces that are dictated by a boss or C-suite are anti-human as well, as they are dictatorial, not democratic.

I doubt the events at the retreat were the only cause for his firing. Creative folks are usually given much wider leeway compared to the bean counters.

It feels like somebody in senior management had it in for Baillie. And the ketamine story provided a sufficient cause.

Exactly this. No matter how they dress it up, HR is there to protect the company, not you.

Genuine question. Can you tell me why people love saying this so much?

HR stands for Human Resources, as in how the company manages ones of its resources, the humans. Is this not obvious at all?

I've no idea what happened. Treating allegations in a lawsuit as undeniable true or "flat out admissions" is a bad idea, though. Doing that would have you believing that Craig Wright is Satoshi Nakamoto, after all, he claimed in a lawsuit he is.

Do you think the fired employee’s lawyer would have included it if they couldn’t prove it?

Yes, that actually happens in real lawsuits. It is not even rare.
