I did have RCS issues with GrapheneOS (on T-Mobile in the US) for a while, but at some point that was fixed and it works flawlessly now. As for camera apps, the stock GrapheneOS camera app is a bit clunky, I just download the stock Android "Camera" off of the Play Store...

Um, ackshually

> GrapheneOS includes our own modern camera app focused on privacy and security. It includes modes for capturing images, videos and QR and barcode scanning along with additional modes based on CameraX vendor extensions (Portrait, HDR, Night, Face Retouch and Auto) on devices where they're available (Pixels currently only have support for Night mode).

I am indeed using the "Pixel Camera" app, which I would consider the "stock camera" for Pixel devices. It is just labelled as "Camera" in the app drawer.

AOSP fully supports everything needed for RCS. AOSP doesn't provide any actively developed messaging app so an app with RCS support needs to come from elsewhere. AOSP never provided an RCS messaging app. AOSP only provides a sample SMS/MMS app for testing purposes which is intended to be replaced. GrapheneOS is well into the process of replacing it including replacing nearly the whole user interface in our developmen…

oh nice is there a tracking issue for this somewhere? I've taken a peek at the issues in the org on github but i didn't see one off the bat (mainly because there's a ton of other SMS related issues that pop up from history)

We have a dedicated issue tracker for the Messaging app now. The user interface has been nearly entirely overhauled already but we haven't made a new release yet. That's coming soon and then we'll be overhauling it under the hood too.

It's Roblox's responsibility to police their platform and the vast majority of bad actors use mainstream operating systems and mainstream services like Discord or Telegram. Clearly lack of privacy does not prevent crime as we can see on Telegram and Discord which are both not E2EE and yet have far more crime taking place then on encrypted alternatives.

wow what a nonsensical argument. "not all criminals wear ski masks. so let's let let anyone walk on school premises wearing a sky mask"

GrapheneOS isn't even designed for anonymity and is more secure than iPhones but iPhones are the next best option. A phone is not going to do anything deter or encourage bad behaviour on a platform. It would be much easier on a desktop considering the multi-tasking.

Most criminals are not smart which is why they commit crimes.

The idea that GrapheneOS is for criminals is as absurd as saying iPhones are. They are just tools trying to be the best they can be.

Google is the only one supporting them currently.

Well, also expect the next Pixel bootloader to be locked out if they become too big.

They keep it open to support developers developing for Android.

ROM is to android what distro is to Linux. The term is used correctly here. An android ROM could refer to the stock OS, GrapheneOS, LineageOS, Pixel Experience, etc.

GrapheneOS and other operating systems based on the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) are Linux distributions. None of those is a ROM. They're AOSP-based OSes. They're not read-only memory firmware or stored in read-only memory. Using the term ROM that way is very confusing to people who aren't part of communities historically using it that way. It's very misleading and propagates misconceptions. It's not simply abo…

I am pointing out that is how the term is used in the android community, as you are well aware. They did not misspeak.
