Well, the old Euro design avoided making references to specific countries and chose to use generic images of bridges for a reason. You can only put so many faces on your currency. You can't choose any set of faces without people from some countries being left out. And if you leave any country out, you are just handing munition to Eurosceptics in that country to fire at Brussels — "dear citizens, don't you feel the EU is really just about Germany and France? See, the money you spend everyday does not even bear the image of our countrymen!"
You can of course say people should just grow up and not be affected by petty sentimental arguments like this. But keep in mind, the EU is as much an economical and political project as it is a cultural project. You have to win people's hearts. And you do so by not making them feel neglected.

Also having people on a note is dumb when the note has to be designed for a continent. Europe is not US it’s a union, but still a collection of sovereign countries with national pride and centuries of history.
Having the EU bureaucrat offices on the notes are cherry on top like could they be more narcissistic?
One could think that they would steal some ideas from Swiss currency note. They could have put things that were invented or discovered in Europe that changed the course of humans forever and something to be proud of being European, instead they went with some birds

I feel like this comment section is all about people searching for a reason to get offended. How dare you to use a face! How dare you to use a building! How dare they use something some country specific! And even worst, generic! Oh no, a building of an institution! No matter what is in, people looking to twist it in offense will find a reason.
Faces and buildings objectively make for ugly currency. Birds are somewhat okay, they disregard borders. I would have preferred more varied fauna or flora.
Just take a look at Maldive's currency and tell me that this proposal isn't terribly boring.

I genuinely liked how these buildings design looked. I like birds too.
I found faces more of uglier, but that is not the same as offensive. I dont feel insulted over the faces, they are just more boring to look at.
I think there is massive difference between "I prefer this other picture" or "this is ugly" and the "it is insulting and offensive" people do here.
