is this a joke? namecheap did years ago the brave move by suspending services to russian customers. why should we support a company that seems involved in russian war affairs?

Is it? I can't find an official source that supports that claim. Also, Yandex disinvested from Russia and split the non-Russian business into a different company. So is it Yandex or "Yandex (copy)"?

I'm not trying to defend / take a position. I just find it difficult to reason without having an official (up-to-date) source.

Unfortunately it appears to not be a joke, my best theory is that either the persons running it have sympathies with Russia and their war efforts, or they value the marginal gain in revenue from having Yandex integrated in some sort of ultra cut throat free market capitalism approach with no qualms or concerns about anything ethical or moral.

Trying to say that Yandex isn't a Russian company is preposterous. It's the largest search engine in Russia and runs tons of other online services that are analogous to social media and cloud things in the English and Western European language speaking world.

In fact SEO people on SEO forums have been talking about how to inject products into training for many months; but at some point the model operators will offer this directly.

They'll simply copy Google's playbook. First, clearly highlighted as advertisement results, usually the first three, so just with muscle memory you'll scroll down right away. Then they get bigger. Then the highlighting gets removed. Then it's just a tiny badge saying "advertisement".

This is something that I noticed after doing a Google search on a new machine without uBlock Origin installed. I was unable to identify that the first link was an advertisement to a competitor's product of the brand I looked up. I remember adverts used to be highlighted really well in Google searches earlier.

If I am unable to differentiate between an ad and a search result then neither can a lot of non technical users including my parents.

Can't wait to see ChatGPT ads

Unpopular opinion: I think users should be free to choose.

Ah, so you are against ads! At least the way ads are today. With that I mean that the way ads today mostly focus on manipulating over informing is effectively hindering your ability to choose.

According to the ads manager UI, unless I'm willing to allow up to $3 a click I'm warned "my bid may be too low to deliver reliably".

Considering I'm paying 20 cents per click elsewhere, this could get real expensive, real fast.
