This is hilarious delusion. Not only does America apparently hate AI (lol), but for the first time in a very long time, the American public has apparently managed to successfully mobilise and oust politicians! Plural! and a large enough number to be noteworthy!

A. That's not a useful thing I care about nor should you (in the context of the current state of things) and B. I don't oppose AI as a concept. I oppose it as an emblem of the failure of our systems of governance to serve the common man. I oppose the implementation that people colloquially mean when they say AI, I have nothing against tensor blobs and I more or less wish intellectual property was abolished.

It has really given us a perfect emblem of the worst capitalism has to offer, I'm not holding my breath but perhaps this backlash will precipitate further change to drive us toward a flatter economy and a society that does a better job of rejecting exploitation and concentration of power. One that more effectively serves humanity and allows us to find a much better global optimum.

Two things can be true. The data centers can be driving up electricity costs, causing pollution, planning issues, and computer hardware shortages _and_ people can be finding the tools useful.
Then mandate clean energy generation for data centers, not some outright ban bullshit.
That said banning it across the whole state, in a state with ample industrial parks and water resources, does seem excessive.

Touche, a more or less decent pool robot cleaner is around 3k and doesn't last more than a few years without changing every part but the case itself. Ok I take it - it operates in somewhat "hostile" environment but the point still stands
It didn't need an LLM or deep learning to do its job because it would randomly crawl around so long that it was on. I don't understand adding complexity, fragility, or cost to a solved problem, but I guess there are enough people who engage in competitive conspicuous consumption to signal status.
