I'd suspect that a watch like the Pebble isn't syncing time with a Quartz crystal but by counting processor ticks - that would be a lot less precise in the long run.

I dunno. If you need to record your thoughts often enough that you're wearing a smart-ring to do it, then it seems like you're going to burn through the 12 hours of recording time pretty quick.

Even if it was really 2 years, that really doesn’t sound great IMHO. I personally keep my devices a very long time, and given there is no reasons for such a simple device to become obsolete I wouldn’t want to replace it after only 2 years

Also ask any serious Garmin watch user about their charging/data contacts. They start to rot away after 1-2 years of being exposed to sweat.

Just looked at mine and wondered whether I should 3D print a cover for the contacts from TPU. Thanks for the idea!

I don't think I've ever heard anyone complain about that, and I know a good amount of people who use Garmin watches. My own forerunner is still going strong after 5 (I think) years of use, with multiple runs a week for most of that time.

I've had my Fenix 5 Plus swapped once during warranty because of this. And the replacement's contacts started to corrode again when I sold the watch. It might not happen to all models, but some are very prone to it.

"The index is a ludicrous product"... for you, and most of the general public.

But there are 1,000s of us that heard about it, researched the limitations.. and still bought one immediately.

At $100 even if it only lasts a year it would still be worth it. For me.

Oura Rings (I don't know about the Index) aren't just like other kinds of jewelry. There are protrusions inside the Ring, just like on other wearables like the Apple Watch, for optical sensors that change how it fits. And these smart rings cannot be stretched or modified in any way.

They make little ~rubber caps to cover the charging port when you're not using it. That, and make sure it's dry when you charge it to rule out galvanic nonsense.

I wear an analog watch; I've never spent over $200 on a watch, despite being a bit picky (I insist on a day-of-week feature). Casio and Citizen sell analog watches for under $100.

Sure. Also the Chinese watch brands offer good mechanical watches for even under $100, or for not much more (steeldive for example, or pagani), I'm aware.

But there are also a lot of watches that are more expensive, way more expensive than the pebble. Plus the typical price for the smartwatches, I just checked the Samsung galaxy watch, over 300€. The pebble looks fine there.
