What is the value you find excluding charity or empathy feelings?

i'm not a robot or venture capitalist, so i'm not sure why i need to exclude empathy from my decision-making process. but, from a purely selfish standpoint: i get way better customer service, i can do trades, i can barter, i get to meet and talk with people, i can see the product before i buy it (no surprise knock-offs, etc.), my money mostly stays local, i find interesting work opportunities and sometimes referrals

You don't have to exclude empathy, but I said it is "a charity-empathy business" and you called that "a sad comment to read" and added that you get a lot of value. That would strongly imply that you disagree with my characterization and/or you get a lot of non-charity-empathy value. That then leads to me asking what that value is.

Personally none of those things you listed are what I want when buying a book, except knockoff protection, but thank you for answering.

I'll have to look into that. It should just work since it works on Chrome and I've made effort to request as little privilege as possible. But I'll have to test and try it out. If you're able and willing, create an issue on the addon repo: https://github.com/chris-mosley/AmazonBrandFilter/issues And I'll build a version for safari for you to test.

Thanks so much! Will do

So yeah checking. Apple stopped making Safari for Windows a long time ago. So the issue with me supporting it is I have no way to test before publishing. I'll need to figure out something for that if I want to make the Safari version a real boy.

Allow users to opt into you injecting referral links. If they opt in, when they land anywhere, you rewrite amazon links to your referral code. Costs users $0, it's opt-in, and you make money.

I've considered this. I just feel like I need to be really careful on that front. Right now I'm dealing with a dude that requested his own brand be added. Which is totally cool. But looking at said brand. I am reeeaaallly struggling to tell if hes 3dprinting his stuff to sell, or if hes drop-shipping it and trying to get on the list.

In the current age of AI, deepfakes, etc this is a very hard problem and I don't envy you. I think asking vendors to go through a paid verification process is fair. There are a slew of KYB vendors out there who can help.

This is like the maintainers of all Adblock lists getting upset at the creator of uBlock origin for using them.

Except that Raymond Hill explicitly refuses to accept financial contributions of any sort and directs people to support the list maintainers.

This guy isn’t taking financial contributions, and the Amazon brand list is only one part of the product.

I use Ali Express for those things because I don’t need them next day and I need my money more than Jeff Bezos does.

I probably should, but they're so cheap on Amazon anyway. I don't have Amazon Prime.

For what I typically buy Amazon is about 2x-8x more. Though sometimes for more expensive items it might be a wash.

One other factor is that the minimum order for free shipping is often $10 versus $30 or $39 or $49 depending on Amazon’s algorithmic state and below $10, $1.99 is often Ali Express shipping cost.

But again, that’s for what I buy.

Also one very common subtype of the first option nowadays is that some company is just buying the exact same product from alibaba that you could buy from a random company on amazon or aliexpress, marking it up, and spending a few bucks on an internet presence and advertising to try to seem like a more legit company but doesn't really offer any more support or warranty than the brands that seem like a random combinati…

I get so many ads on Instagram for things that are available alibaba but with fancy packaging and a huge markup. This seems like an evolution of the drop shipping hustle.

It's not an evolution that's literally what drop shipping is.

Have him send you a sample piece, with his name embossed in the print. Easy to do in most slicers.

The example I gave was $10. I suppose it's possible I'll get it cheaper on AliExpress, but how much cheaper?

As for shipping - if it's not urgent, I just put it in my Wishlist until I accumulate items beyond the free shipping threshold.

You're expanding the scope to a much larger process and pattern of behavior that has to be undertaken and managed. Sure it's doable, and you can save a bunch of money that way. But as a one line throwaway comment it's still nonsense. Also freezing things or letting them sit in the fridge for weeks tends to change the texture. A main point of a burrito shop is the fresh ingredients.

Well, you also don't have to freeze anything. When you cook almost every meal, you end up using most ingredients before they go bad. The ingredients for a burrito are pretty basic and can be used to make all sorts of things.

"cook almost every meal" is exactly the type of "expanding the scope" I was talking about. Cooking food yourself is a well-known way of saving money. Starting by trying to reproduce burrito shop burritos is not the way to get there.
