Then, how do you know the local business owner isn't, in turn, using that profit to buy stuff from companies with directors and shareholders sitting on beaches in French Polynesia? If you track the individual dollars, most flows of value eventually, after some number of loops, end up with the French Polynesia sitting people.

That local business owner pays taxes and presumably eats food and uses services from his or her own town. They also pay local people to work in their shop who also presumably spends some of their wages locally.

AmazonBrandFilter dev here. Yeah. I don't know. I don't love that they're just ripping the list like that, I wouldn't mind as much if they at least helped contribute to the list. That is far and away the hardest part of this thing. But it is what it is, I'll be more peeved if they monetize it (which I'm unsure if they're doing). Maybe I should put one of those buy me a coffee links on the repo, I'd probably be better…

How do you account for comingled inventory?

But they are not offering anything worth patronizing. There's no value proposition. The prices are higher, getting the book takes longer, they don't ship it to me, and they never have a good book in stock. Independent book stores exist entirely as a charity-empathy business. They only exist because people feel bad about not shopping there.

im not your dad, so im not going to tell you how to spend your money. if you prefer to support amazon, go for it. save your $1.25 or whatever.

but wow, i found this a sad comment to read. i find a lot of value in shopping local.

3D printing is more a practice than it is a way to quickly create one off objects. I think certainly if your machine is dialed in and not malfunctioning in some way then it will be cheaper and faster to print than to buy this.

I have a Bambu P1S and using it has been some kind of normie-friendly experience. I recall in the long past before I got this machine, my friend's early model Prusa would semi-bootstrap itself by printing some of its parts but the thing I ended up getting was a fully formed unit that just does the whole thing with a minimum of fuss. We use the 3d printer explicitly for the one-off object scenario.

That's great to hear! I suppose I always wondered about how Bambu printers fare over time. I have had all sorts of issues with my Creality and FlashForge machines. They have sorta scared me away from the enterprise a bit.

Mixed inventory is really a different issue. So short version, I don't. However Amazon did announce they were stopping the practice so hopefully that's just solved.

That's a great excuse. Meanwhile, there are billionaires whose investment incomes could pay those salaries many times over. Where do those investment incomes come from? Ahh, yes. Profits.

If we're being pedantic, investment income comes from a bunch of people who trade pieces of paper for a living deciding that a particular piece of paper is now worth $1 more today than yesterday. Well, okay, it's not paper anymore, just entries in some computer database in New Jersey or Delaware or something.

Investment income--in the form of capital gains--isn't coming from profits, it's coming from the mass delusion in the value of stock assets (which is somewhat correlated with profits, although the existence of stocks like SpaceX or Gamestop show the possible disconnects).

If you wanted to complain about the salaries of billionaires, or the stock grants on the other hand... but you said investment income!

This is like the maintainers of all Adblock lists getting upset at the creator of uBlock origin for using them.
