#4Despite how I think "government owns shares in all businesses" is a perfectly decent way to organise taxation, manage national security concerns, fund UBI, etc., with this government in particular it reeks of cronyism.
It's not like Altman's teflon coating has been remaining intact, neither.

I wonder to which extent this has always been how things worked and it was just hidden from the general public, and how much of it is a new level of corruption.

Sounds like it is for benefit of public rather than govt' office, and this would continue to benefit public even after current US administration is out of picture.

Strings not needed. If you’re putting billions of dollars in a box, you need people to manage it, people to sell it and buy things with the proceeds, people to argue with problem who disagree with you about the previous points, et cetera.

In general it it is ridden with bad incentives and conflicts of interests.
It is kinda like funding the police with ticket and asset forfeiture revenue.
We already have personal income tax and corporate taxes so that the government gets a cut of Revenue.
