I never realized how severely his is being done on this site and I don't know how I feel about it - such 1984 vibes and its just growing and getting more widespread due to AI, no doubt.

The guidelines counsel us to avoid a number of counterproductive communications. Those might all fit under an umbrella of negative sentiment.

It would be impossible to tell without running analysis queries as to who and what causes such behavior.
I should point out your comment is “frumpy” with a dash of “cringe”. Could it be that your comments are laced with a condescension which draws negative response?

#6I've been using HN for around 10 years, but in 2024 I really started to dislike it... Not for the people on it, but the people running it. Now to me it's like Google, plenty of people feel like they are stuck in it even though they utterly despise it.

1. Stop worrying about karma. It's not a measure of your worth as a person or something.
2. Be helpful. Answer questions people have. Share useful information that others didn't know to ask for.
