They do, and that's what is coming to Linux with PR #655. surprisingly, last I checked, even macOS doesn't support this!

You're really twisting yourself into a pretzel to make it seem like Apple has made it impossible to install Asahi or something. Introducing these weird analogies about doors and killing people just dilutes whatever point you think you're making, and only invites people to fork the conversation with their own "well akshually it's like inviting you into my kitchen but not giving you a cookbook" retorts. Be direct, make the point you're going to make, not a sophist's allegory.

Loads of 3rd party tags that work on the other networks though. That was the point they were making, not that they had some NFC extra-functionality

What are some examples of 3rd party tags? I know the Find My network itself has been hacked around with for a 3rd party tag. I've always dreamed of an open-source tag that integrates with all the major networks so I can put a little tag on my cat's collar and track his travels.

Ugreen tags work with both Google's Find network and Apple's FindMy network.

Well there you go. I guess its not so proprietary after all.

No. Although I do use them on my Linux desktop I wouldn't recommend anyone use bluetooth on Linux regularly.

You have to put them in pairing mode first: For airpod pros: Open the lid, keep the earbuds in the case, double tap your finger on the case just below the green led, The led should start to flash white and the airpods now appear in the device list in linux so that you can pair with them. Non-pro have an physical button on the rear IIRC.
