I’ve been asking myself this question quite a bit lately. People seem to suddenly think China is a good alternative to the US hegemony status. I sincerely hope I’m just misreading things.

As the US jerks from being BDFL to bullying zero summer, it’s not surprising that the abstract fears of china seem manageable compared to the new pressing fears of the US. Why as a European be more afraid of a country that whilst you wouldn’t want to live in and which has supported Russia is quiet and selling you cheap stuff vs a country who used to be a friend who is now wanting you to grovel for a bad deal and is a…

See this is almost exactly what I’m concerned about. The ignorance to think that the US is “supporting Russia” (as if China bypassing embargoes for the exact same reason is somehow… better? Because you expected it and surprises are scarier than cozying up to enemies???) is astounding. China basically didn’t have to do ANYTHING while also actively having real literal concentration camps, aggressively trying to capture an entire continent through their Debt and Road initiative, and causing global instability on the internet, and useful idiots fall for the trap.

Does anyone have any insight into how we could potentially counter China’s propaganda? This comment right here showed the danger of ignoring it.

This is the study in question. https://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMoa2034577

Doesn’t say anything even close to what you’re saying. This source supports what I am saying, and shows the Covid vaccine is: 1. Highly effective at preventing Covid 2. As safe as other viral vaccines

27%? You interpret a nearly 1/3 incidence rate for a negative reaction to be safe?!

You realize that's more than 300x higher than COVID infection as known at the time, and it's more than 30,000x as we know today?

It says exactly what I'm saying. You just need to look at the numbers, if you're willing.

It's sad that so many people simply can't read a research paper because they've never written one.

This should be required for finishing middle school.

>As safe as other viral vaccines

No! Most vaccines that we give children have an incident rate less than 1/500,000! Some are less than 1/billion.

It might be as safe as other COVID vaccines (RNA based), and which also had an insanely high incident rate and for the same reason.

Horrifying. Truly.

Mythos is relatively new and Antrophic has been fighting US government to not allow their models for warfare. However, it’s only a matter of time till they bend the knee and in next 5-10 years we’ll see the effects of that. Previously US used rebel groups to throw governments in other countries that are not US friendly. In the future I can see they can just start chaos by attacking banking systems, energy infrastruct…

That's all entirely science fiction though, until we see some actual evidence. If Mythos is so incredibly dangerous, then the models before should be at least a little dangerous, and we haven't seen that.

> That's all entirely science fiction though

Current AI was science fiction 5 years ago. But, you're entitled to your opinion, no matter how ignorant it is

> This study does not show reasonable safety. You're nuts. Death is not reversible! Scarring of heart tissue is not reversible. Can you actually read? The high number of adverse effects you mention refers to things like transient fever, numbers for myocarditis is much lower for vaccine vs covid, and for death it's much, much, much lower. I'm sorry but you hold your views only because you don't understand what you are…

I was still writing my comment during your emotional outburst. Reinforcing stereotypes about the Left it seems. You haven't addressed any of the research or the CDC data. And you've conflated two data sets. You're also still ignoring the actual study to claim that the incidences reported didn't include fatalities when they did. (That number went up dramatically in the CDC data, even if it was low in the study by comp…

Amazing mate, literally everything you wrote is wrong, including labeling me as left wing, keep it up!

Either you’re stupid or ignorant. What do you mean by easily spin up alternative android? And who is going to fund that? EU spend millions of Euros for a corona Warn app, and spinning an android alternative would cost billions, with tax payers money. Also everyone that uses iPhones, what are they going to do? Are they gonna get free android phones? Forget about phones, all the companies that uses RDS would lose their…

> And who is going to fund that? Oh, European billionnaires and incumbent telecoms would love to. As soon as they get enough government concessions and guarantees. Who exactly? The ALDI family. Xavier Niel. At least for people working in IT this is the fastest way to answer the question "how can we make it even worse?". Especially European incumbent telecoms. They're the answer to this question "do people sometime qu…

> European billionnaires and incumbent telecoms would love to As soon as they get enough government concessions and guarantees

I'm pretty sure they are really looking forward to pocket billions of tax payers money. If they are so eager, why wait for the government? just go for it like the US counterparts.

That’s true, but every time a country or a group of country tried to do that US has stopped it either strategically or with military force so far.

But you are talking about Europe. If the US and Europe were to cut all ties they would both face some serious consequences, and the US wouldn't be able to do anything about that, not strategically or military. The US need trust in order to function, and attacking would loose them all trust globally, making it much much more severe than anything any other nations would struggle with.

I don't think entire EU would cut ties with US. US would definitely try to divide and concur and I think they would be successful. Not every country in EU sees US as an enemy (especially conservative and right leaning governments in EU)

Didn’t it find a bunch of 30 year old vulnerabilities already? What more proof do you need

I understand why Anthropic might not want to fight this particular one in court, because they're trying to convince the administration to let them move forward. But would another company who is not on the trusted partner list and has less to lose taking on the admin have standing to sue here? On the basis of the export control being illegal and this putting their business at a disadvantage vs. competitors with access

Export control is not illegal where are you coming up with this stuff? Claiming ignorance is a good way to pay tens of millions of $ in fines or do prison time. Here's one from TWO DAYS AGO: https://www.justice.gov/usao-edny/pr/manager-us-freight-forw... She will be doing 18 months in federal lockup. The people in charge of enforcing US export law are worse than city building inspectors and the penalties are orders o…

I'm not sure where in my post you thought I was suggesting either ignoring an export control or that all export controls are illegal.

Export controls are governed by the Export Control Reform Act of 2018. The procedures the government must follow to enact a rule is defined by the Administrative Procedures Act. It's not a slam-dunk case, but I think there are significant questions around the arbitrary nature of the approved company list, the control restricting US-based permanent resident employees from accessing models, and how the rule was enacted in general which would make a viable case.

Suing the government saying that APA was not correctly followed or that the export control in question does not comply with the ECRA will absolutely not get you put in prison, that's not the kind of country we live in and honestly I have no clue what you're talking about.
