#84Ive been surprised at how effective (for personal projects) this type of rote promotion by link sharing can be. It feels fruitless initially but i guess whatever-engine-optimization keeps paying to be consistent.
awesome-lists like you see on github seem to be missing, which would be a good inclusion. Although I think many of those curators are suffering a wave of slop right now so maybe not.

Submit a well researched article that fits their blog perfectly and a link to your own blog full of excessive details at the end.

#88I built rateyourreads.com — a free community book ratings site (Goodreads alternative, 10k+ books). Just spent the evening trying to submit it across as many of these directories as I could. The CAPTCHA gauntlet on most of them is real. submission.directory is a great starting point!

Maybe this is new to folks not being active in the internet during the 90th, but essentially search engines were partly simply link catalogs, curated mostly like Yahoo, CompuServe, AOL.
Excite, Lycos. Web rings were a thing, stumbledupon, delicious - nothing new here.
Even blog listings were a thing with technorati.
And remember Digg?

#90I have a new startup, it's been going pretty poorly. I think it serves a great market and could be useful if it could get in front of the right people. The problem with a lot of these sites is they won't allow you to shill and the ones that do require lengthy sign up processes or money. I tried to post to alternativeto but I had to wait 7 days! Because my account was too new. I considered AdWords but again I'd be paying hundreds or even thousands per month and I have no customers so it doesn't make sense to do that and idk if it would even result in any sign ups.
