Earlier quoted context omitted.

As I noted before, since people are free to post what they like on HN, there is no reason for the community not to bring it back if desired. Please don't moderate a thread you didn't post when nothing offensive is being posted. It's unnecessary and rude.

n.b. if the original whoishiring thread comes back, I will certainly quit posting this alternative!

as a further note, people continue to post to this thread because they want to. Maybe it's worth taking a hint and letting things happen instead of obsessively needing to control them, hm?

Background: Senior software engineer with ~8 years of experience building and scaling backend and full-stack systems in finance, healthcare, logistics, and e-commerce. We phased out this regular thread a few months ago because most people were cross-posting between it and "Who Wants to Be Hired" (or, if they were seeking a freelancer, "Who Is Hiring"). I appreciate that you and at least a few other users have found these freelancer threads valuable and, if I can find a few minutes to look into it more closely, will consider restoring them. I'd prefer to have a solution to the cross…

Please bring this back as a separate feature.

So, it seems like a "FREELANCE" or "OPEN TO FREELANCE" or etc. keyword, on the regular "who is hiring" and "who wants to be hired", would not be too difficult for people to use and understand.

SEEKING WORK | Canada (CST / UTC -6) | Remote

I do focused, outcome-driven fixes on existing web systems (often PHP, plus infra and automation).

Most engagements run 1–3 weeks and resolve specific failures or bottlenecks.

I prioritize functionality and usability over novelty and don't upsell rewrites if repair is possible.

I'm a good fit for teams that value decisive fixes over lowest-cost bidding.

Examples available on request.
