Wow. I had (just now) made one comment on the bad layout. As you might guess, I'm on desktop, and looking at the site in a window wider than it is tall. I saw your comment and shrunk my window to be half as wide as it is tall, and the layout corrects itself and changes -- dramatically.

Surprisingly, I had the art exhibit impression opening it on 16:9 desktop. It's sparse, as a gallery, or a luxury boutique, where free space accentuates value of content. It looks OK on mobile, but on desktop it's the sparse, but non-monotonous layout, that guides attention and provides a second layer to the content.

For me at a wider presentation the layout was broken: text overlapping, images misplaced, etc.

Back in the day, you made some website on GeoCities or Angelfire and no one visited your site. Today, you post to Medium or Bear Blog and no one visits your site.

The difference is that back in the day people couldn't find your site, whereas today they don't even look.

Everyone self-censoring on a social media platform (disturbingly common) should have long-ago moved to something self-hosted, but the integrity of the message is less important than its reach. Consumers of these censored feeds should have long-ago moved back to RSS or created an open alternative method of providing independent, algorithmically curated streams.

The issue is that it's beautifully designed for a portrait phone-ish-sized screen. Try viewing it in 16:9 and it's a mess. I viewed it on desktop, I still think it looks pretty good. Not efficient in the way it displays content, but still beautiful.

Why are you trying to gaslight me? I know what I’m seeing. In my browser (Chrome with default settings), there are certain paragraphs where the first word of every line is partially obscured. There are others where the last word of every line is obscured. It is unreadable.

I'm not gaslighting you. Are you just willy nilly accusing me of lying that nothing was covered up in MYYYYY browser? What about Lynx? hmm? What a garbage community member you are.

screenshots aren't 'proof.' and haven't been for a long time, neither was i ever looking for 'proof'. wow, the amount of webdev butthurt at someone's website who criticized webdevs is astounding.

People who kvetch a lot are not good people to work with. And past a certain point, even to be around.

Mercifully, nobody's forcing you to visit HN or read specific posts or comment threads. :) I mean, nobody's forcing me; I guess I can't speak to your specific situation, but presumably you aren't being coerced into consuming HN material.

I never said things were covered up for YOU, I said they were covered up for ME. Then you implied I was lying, and now that I provided proof your new argument is “Chrome isn’t a valid user agent”. Sure bud.

They are proof of MY experience.

Accusing me of “webdev butthurt” is pretty funny. considering that:

A. I’m not a web dev.

B. I have already said multiple times I agree with the actual message of the article! (I just couldn’t read parts of it on desktop)
