One can only hope. This would lead to great efficiency in aircraft flight, HVAC, and many other industrial areas. Besides, as a creation of "AI", the solution wouldn't be copyrightable or patentable! We would all reap the benefits!

whats the significance of this? is there new information that suggests this may occur?

deepmind recently posted a paper that took a step towards solving it. there’s general hype on twitter that they’ll release a solution alongside gemini 3 this week. https://eu.36kr.com/en/p/3473272279865732

I am not sure if I am pessimistic about the prospect of it being solved by an AI, or optimistic at the prospect of it being solved at all and what it entails.
