This article is pretty good. My current work is transitioning CV models in a large, local hospital system to a more unified deployment system, and much of the content aligns with conversations we have with providers, operations, etc.. I think the part that says models will reduce time to complete tasks and allow providers to focus on other tasks is on point in particular. For one CV task, we’re only saving on average…

I didn’t see this before, but I work at a non-profit, government hospital system. So increasing profits, although probably a good answer most of the time, is probably not as applicable in this case lol

Not your correspondent, but trains are quite easy to derail, because they work by sliding orthogonality over the rail, and because otherwise there are way worse crashes. The cow might not have caused the fatalities directly, but derailment, and a fast train crashing unbound through the landscape has a lot of kinetic energy.

I decided to do a little searching myself, now that I'm at my PC. In 1984 there was 13 killed from derailment from hitting a cow, but that was a "push-pull" train and it wasn't the locomotive that hit the cow, but a much lighter "control car".[1] Another case where the train hit a cow and launched it through the air, and it struck and killed someone.[2] Also, in [1] there weren't any cowcatchers on the train either.…

Well all the locomotives I see daily, that are not steam locomotives from 50 years ago, don't have cowcatchers. Instead they are designed that, in case of a frontal collision with another train, they push each other to the side, so that there will be less deaths.

What I remember is a collision of a high speed train with sheep in a tunnel. (https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eisenbahnunfall_im_Landr%C3%BC...) The collision itself only was with a single sheep.

One thing people aren't talking about is liability. At the end of the day if the radiologist makes an error the radiologist gets sued. If AI replaces the radiologist then it is OpenAI or some other AI company that will get sued each and every time the AI model makes a mistake. No AI company wants to be on the hook for that. I think it's more likely that as long as they make a best effort at trying to classify correctly then they would be fine.

Yes for many types of doctors a single mistake could seriously negatively impact their lives.

Not just radiologists but surgeons too for example.

Depends on if the patient sues and how that goes.

It won't lead to bankruptcy as malpractice insurance is there but your premiums would go higher and it could still be costly.
