Even right now I feel the need to tip toe around it, rather than just saying it outright.

This improves Macron's image from the left.
Maybe it improves diplomatic relationships with some countries, but I wonder how.

As someone with Israeli parents, it's because of decades of propaganda. People in Gaza are viewed as evil and subhuman. It is sickening to me.

Even within Israel it's extremely divisive. A member of the Knesset was suspended for calling the Gaza extermination a genocide.[1] Haaretz is comparing Gaza to the Warsaw Ghetto.[2]
Much of this is to keep Netanyahu in power. He needs a war to hold together his coalition.[3]

The situation there is rather complicated with both sides committing atrocities so if you say anything much some people will think you are in favour of some atrocity or other.
