Location: Seattle, Washington

Remote: Yes. PST timezone preferred.

Willing to relocate: No, but open to occasional travel to an office within reason.

Technologies: Lots. If it has a manual or documentation, I'm happy to learn it. If it doesn't, I'll read the source. See résumé for a more complete but not exhaustive list. Most of my language experience has been with Javascript and Golang, but I've used Python, Java and Lua professionally and Lisp and Haskell for fun. I would most prefer to work with Golang but open to using any language I've used or learning other languages. My strongest skillsets revolve around making highly distributed systems highly reliable and fast (millions of requests per second across thousands of machines across multiple datacenters globally). I'm an expert in software testing and CI/CD. I am mostly a back-end engineer, but I'm not a stranger to front-end work.

I most recently spent just shy of 10 years at Uber (2014 to 2024) before taking a sabbatical for personal pursuits and I'm now looking to get back to work. I was a staff software engineer at Uber before I left. While at Uber, I worked on some of the largest, most complex stateful systems/services. Prior to Uber, I worked at a started from the seed round through series B. I'm no stranger to any size environment from a small startup all the way through a large mature corporation and everything in between. I'm open to consider companies of all sizes, but my preference is a company at series B or later that has product/market fit and is looking to scale the business, improve reliability and implement best practices.

I'm a long-time HN member with almost 9000 karma/points, but posting on a new account to maintain some degree of anonymity for my primary account.

Hello!

I am a senior full-stack developer with over 5 years of experience building applications for the United States weather service (NOAA, NWS, OHD, NOMADS, etc.), Minnesota schools, and non-profit organizations. I started out building front-end apps and grew to love the back-end/cloud as well (it is so nice to write database/API/CMS/cloud helper programs quickly in Node, Python, Go, C++, etc.!). My most involved project was working across the stack on a hole-in-one application for the weather service that consolidates a suite of old applications. I am flexible and love wearing many hats of technologies & procedures. My previous work comrades always described me as high-spirited, excited, and always amped to take on challenging tickets (for example: I built a node.js helper application to migrate 10,000+ vanilla JS/HTML web pages to a tricky CMS).

I'm all sparkles when it comes to full-stack development! I am actively looking for remote full-time or contract work. While that for loop is running, I am deep diving into new tech/AI && full stack projects, such as the Stone King Wiki, Magic: The Gathering Assistant v2, and a touch-focused app similar to what Hans Zimmer uses as the primary console for extending his music composition capabilities.
