Designers Do a Double Take at the Lettering on Pope Francis' Tombstone

I did a double take when I saw the lettering on the news. I'm not a designer but am aware that the black art of kerning is a thing. It's bad and deserves to be called out. That said, I suspect that most are not going to notice until it's pointed out to them.

Now that the nyt has called them on it, I wonder if they are going to fix this...

Ouch. I mean, that’s really horrible. Not just the A, but the CV as well. Genuinely hard to read what it’s meant to say.
