Welcome to Hacker News, I'm glad my comment encouraged you to join the site :) RHEL's EULA has a similar sentence, "This Agreement establishes the rights and obligations associated with Subscription Services and is not intended to limit your rights to software code under the terms of an open source license." That's what I meant by "just as restrictive". Both services are subscriptions where continued access to the so…

Yet RH publicly threatened to close your account/subscriptions when you DO exercise the rights of FOSS binaries if you download and redistribute the sources. This is different than giving 3rd parties access to the mentioned SERVICE [that would be equivalent to sharing your user name and passwords]. CIQ on the other hand actively distributes the sources of Rocky via the OpenELA and other githubs [Warewulf etc.]. Needless to say, but the GPL is about your rights downstream and not 'look we have upstream policies first [in Stream] but if you do redistribute sources of GPL stuff, your account is gone!'. No comparison in my book. Finally, logically, if you still find otherwise, then if CIQ is wrong then also RH is wrong and then also put the onus on BOTH.

There were some press releases where the company behind it looked like it may be pulling out of the space. Though I'm not seeing them now when I do a quick search.

AlmaLinux is a non-profit foundation. It is not run by any company. Lots of companies sponsor it in various ways but no company controls it.

Both comments are correct.

AlmaLinux was originally launched by CloudLinux. It was then transferred into a new purpose specific foundation.

Greg is not the founder of CentOS and people need to stop believing his lies. He's said this lie so much that even he believes it.

I don't appreciate being called a liar and I am happy to debate this with anyone else who was actually there.

Greg kurtzer is not the founder of CentOS. This is FUD he's been regurgitating ever since tricking one of the past CentOS community managers into doing a blog post. If you read the mailing list archives you'll see the truth.

Why do you always take every opportunity you can to try and discredit me on this? Anytime someone mentions me, boom, there you are, in every social media, everywhere, being the first to try to discredit to me. As a spokesperson for a competing project, I'd expect a higher level of decency than spreading FUD like this.

I'd be happy to discuss and debate this with you, but you weren't actually there. I tell you what, go find someone else who was actually there at that time, and I'd be happy to discuss it with them publicly.
