At least among voters, there’s been a realignment over the last decade along the globalism/nationalism dividing line. The factions that favor globalism seem to also favor American military empire (to keep the trade routes safe or whatever, I don’t know). I don’t trust republicans in Congress to actually do it. But it could be a historic opportunity for democrats to call their bluff and support the cuts. A once in a c…

The realignment is less about globalism vs nationalism + multi-polar world and more about creating a tolerance for expansionist nationalism whereby we establish an agreement with major powers to divide up the world for open conquest, with Russia, China and the United States all operating in their respective "sphere of influence" I think its proponents imagine a world where Russia slowly reassembles territories it los…

Errr, I think the market has priced in an awful lot of corruption. PLTR closed at $41.41 on November 4th (day before election), and after its 10% drop today, it closed at $112.06. The market might be saying that even with the corruption, if the total pie shrinks by enough, it hurts the company. I mean, in the sense that the "market" says anything at all.

What i dont understand is why it is seemingly not pricing in the blowback. Clearly next admin will scrutinize any trump-era deals very heavily for their own political points so even if the gravy train is going full stream now it won’t last forever

You think we are gonna have fair elections in 4 years?

- You won't have to do it anymore. Four more years, you know what, it will be fixed, it will be fine, you won't have to vote anymore..."

It is kind of funny to me that the lede is about Palontir instead of the absolutely stunning call by a Republican for the DoD to reduce budget by 8%.

Republicans don't seem to exist anymore, just a party willing to do whatever #45 asks of them. Country be damned.

Right, because all of that talk of taking Greenland is just a joke.

Is Russia still a major power on the same scale as China or the US? I think the list would probably be more like US, China, and India. Russia is further behind on population, GDP, and other measures. And Russia is quickly entering a situation where they may just be controlled by China, like North Korea. I wouldn’t be surprised if China takes territory from Russia by force or at least negotiates for it. It’s possible resolving the Ukraine-Russia war and reinviting them to the G7 will prevent that future.

That’s what a multipolar world is. It allows Russia and China to do in their back yards what America has always done in its back yard.

Actually what Russia is doing is already much worse. What's the US equivalent of the first and second Chechen wars? China and the US are probably the closest analogs right now.

The president can't just say, "no more elections."

There is a need to reign in spending to sustainable levels after 30 years of Republican driven largess. The problem is revenue is going to get kneecapped with another tax cut so the menace can prop up his self esteem.

Because that's 4 years from now, the market barely prices in things which will happen 6 months from now.

They're certainly not pricing in the fact that corruption is actually a really poor business model, especially with the current rollback of the regulatory protections: those companies are going to get paid a lot of money to be husks of their former selves. Why deliver anything when you can get paid for not delivering it as well? Why build and retain qualified engineering staff when you don't need them?
