Could you imagine how the entire world would look if they took truth serum for an entire year, how different the world might be? Lies run the planet, and it stinks.

The Google ex-CEO Schmidt is developing AI drones for Ukraine in Estonia. One would expect that when he needs a source of good foundational AI Google may be among his suppliers of choice. Naturally the Ukraine is just a start. The addressable market is going to be huge, especially for the battle proven stuff. And especially for the one proven against Russian and, by-proxy, Chinese tech.

There is also tremendous interest, though only a few of them have been fielded on the actual battlefield so far, to the remotely controlled and autonomous ground platforms, and Google is the leader in the civilian ones, and it looks to me there is a relatively easy path to transferring the tech into the military systems.

There is a wide range of moral and practical opinions between the statement “all weapons are evil” and “global corporations ought not to develop autonomous weapons”.

Palantir exists, this would just be competition. It's not like Google is the only company capable of creating autonomous weapons so if they abstain the world is saved. They just want a piece of the pie. The problem is the pie comes with dead babies, but if you forget that part it's alright.

With or without autonomous weapons, war is always a sordid business with 'dead babies', this is not in itself a fact that tells us what weapons systems to develop.

Good, this idea that all weapons are evil is an insane luxury belief.

Weapons inherently aren’t evil, which is why everyone has kitchen knives. People use weapons to do evil.

The problem with building AI weapons is that eventually it will be in the hands of people who are morally bankrupt and therefore will use them to do evil.

Your point could be made, probably even stronger than it is currently, by omitting the insult at the start.

Literally just remove the first 4 words and keep the rest of the comment the same, and it's a better comment. No idea what chatgpt has to do with it.

Yet there are boundaries on which weapons we can and cannot develop: Nuclear, Chemical, Biological etc.
