Congrats on the launch! Interestingly I've been working on an almost exactly the same kind of thing and was hoping to release it soon. I've applied to get my app's limits lifted on Spotify, but haven't heard back from them yet...How long did it take for you?

Last time I checked Spotify's genre categorisation system was really weird so that doesn't surprise me.
yeah, exactly. Artists genres are weird and the algorithm uses a weighted system to determine the clusters. But you need to try a couple of different options to get what you want.

MusicBrainz and LastFM have much better genre information and on a track level, IIRC. Their APIs are free, I think. You could use them to look up genres.
