Show HN: Okbookmarks – A Search focussed Bookmark Manager

Hi,

The inspiration behind building this tool

Instance 1: I wanted to create a promotional image for one of my apps. I had previously bookmarked a site that offered free iPhone mockups, but I had to browse through all the URLs saved in my browser's "design" folder to find it.

Instance 2: While working on https://frogment.app, I needed a WYSIWYG editor with a specific feature. I remembered I had starred a GitHub repository that matched my needs exactly, as described in its README. However, when I needed it most, I couldn’t locate it and ended up Googling hard just to find that same repository.

This led me to create Okbookmarks, a simple tool designed to make bookmarks searchable. It uses chromedp to crawl URLs, converts them to markdown, and indexes them for easy search.

Built with Golang and SvelteKit, it’s hosted on a modest Fly.io machine.

I’d love your feedback on features you’d like to see or any improvements that would make it more useful, or if you think it’s a solution worth pursuing.

If nothing else, I plan to open-source it soon.

Love this, would love to see this run locally and allow me to add notes and associate docs with it.

Also, a simple local API would be fantastic.

Yep, no pricing on the home page (or contact details) is an immediate turn off. And no local storage option?

What on earth makes you think that people will trust an absolutely unknown Indian based startup working out of serviced office space with their private data? Really? That's the definition of optimism. :)

Sorry to be harsh, but you're on an uphill battle unless you can deliver much much more trust credentials or remove the insecurity.

Hoarder is an option you can self host and has most of the same features as this tool plus more. The AI tagging feature and full page indexing is pretty handy. Hoarder.app

I am preparing the repo for open source, one good thing is it on golang so memory footprint is low compared to hoarder.app.

The refund policy page is hilarious [1] What are they selling that requires return shipping?

I dunno...I'm an infosec wonk and pretty much every day includes a WTactualF incident that proves the vast majority of people couldn't care less about security/privacy. Like the recent users sending things like credit applications to some rando, off-shore, no terms of service listed, PDF conversion site. No way that could go wrong.
