I really wish there was a viable alternative to YouTube. But its network effects prevent real competition, since content creators depend on users and monetization.

How does that help with YT's network effects?

Same. If there is any benefit to any of it, it is that it forced to re-evaluate some of my habits. Videos I consider useful in the future, I save now ( some unraid setup, some sciency stuff ).

That said, I am not looking at it from content creator perspective at all, which is part of the problem, because I am relatively certain that Google does not do it either.

I don't see an apology, nor an indication that there will be corrective action towards whatever initiated this.

Update - The strike was taken back https://x.com/geerlingguy/status/1841487314440061273?s=46

Only because it was Jeff Geerling, which is another different problem youtube has. There is nobody to lobby on behalf of the smaller creators.

Not sure about this particular instance. LTT got a video taken down by community guidelines violation just the other day, and they are much bigger than Jeff.
