Is there like, any UI/UX plan for the main chat view in Element X? I feel like I've been using it for a year now and every time I see an update available I find myself hoping it's fixed the glaring spacing/padding issues in that particular view. There's a lot of talk of Element competing with mainstream chat applications, but I don't see how it does that with what feels like an incomplete UI. I also just don't quite…

I'm honestly not sure what you're talking about here - the roomlist is pure SwiftUI, and looks almost identical to iMessage or WhatsApp to me. What is the "glaring spacing/padding issues" you're talking about? Similarly on the timeline views... Can you link to a bug on github.com/element-hq/element-x-ios/issues please?

I'm not talking about the room list - that (along with settings) looks fine and is absolutely on-par or nicer than standard Element. :)

"Main chat view" is the actual chatroom view. The bubble layout has spacing that makes it hard to scan messages - there's small padding on the bubbles themselves, but then you have inconsistent spacing on e.g if there's a list or something in that bubble, with lists in particular having a seemingly different line-height or spacing between items. Bubbles themselves have little spacing between each other, and then day separators also have odd spacing.

Additionally, I still have a weird green floating box showing up in the chat input box. It's on and off with every update and it's not click/tap-able, and I have zero clue why it's there.

Does anyone know if this will let you search your messages? This is one of the lacking features I've noticed on the Android version of Element is that you can neither bookmark messages nor search throughout the (encrypted?) chat, making it difficult to find messages you want to refer back to. You can search on the Desktop app, but not sure why you can't on mobile...

just not implemented on mobile yet - sorry. it will be much easier to add for Element X though given the e2ee text indexer (Seshat) is already written in rust and does the right thing though.

Cool, love the project and have had a server running for over a year now! Appreciate your guys' awesome work

No threads support on Element X ?

This is the main difference with Signal in terms of functionality...

Also, raising the issue on github gave no comment https://github.com/element-hq/element-x-android/issues/2831 a few months later.

This makes reading conversations with threads painful on mobile with Element X.

Can we expect the same bugs to be fixed on Element not-X ?

threads will come as fast as possible. you can participate in them today in EX but not initiate them.

honestly, without annotated screenshots filed in github.com/element-hq/element-x-ios/issues to highlight precisely what the problem is (ideally comparing with an equivalent app which you feel gets it correct) i’m not sure we’re going to be able to help you.

the green box sounds like an accessibility helper feature of some kind which has got confused?

thanks :) if the stable EX release works well for you please spread the word - based on the negativity in the rest of the thread we have a lot of trust to regain…
