The entire App Store is still within the marketing department, which is all you need to know about how the App Store is run. This reorganization is internal to marketing, and the leaders are all part of that team.

I don't follow. How does withholding apps from the Mac App Store make it stronger, and what do you mean by "powerful enough to extract its 30% tax"? Legit question, I just don't get what you're saying, no argument.
Apple won't pull the trigger and ban 90% of apps to profit on the other 10%. Apple may pull the trigger and ban 10% of apps to profit (more) on the other 90%.
If they're that hostile to me as a user i'd prefer they just show their hand sooner hah.

That's the only thing stoping Apple? Not the fact that if they did that every mac out there would become unusable?
I wonder how many people this actually applies to. Is it primarily developers who need non-app store software? Is there still a sizable number of people using Macs for other work (like school or design) like in the old days?

I see your point but also note that they have already done something similar with the M1. Pre-DMA and Epic lawsuit, I could potentially see them drop support for installing apps outside their app store. All they would really need is Adobe to agree and the rest would just have to follow, similar in some ways to the ARM transition. (With the notable difference being that one was free for developers aside from the cost…
What did they do similar with M1? I don’t believe they changed anything about app installation in relation to their arm processors.

Honestly i don't think i care lol. I'd be pissed, but i'd move to back Linux. If they're that hostile to me as a user i'd prefer they just show their hand sooner hah.
Their interests are different.

#47Since we're here I have a suggestion to offer. When submitting your mobile app to the App Store there is a checkbox/option somewhere asking you to if you want to distribute the app to Mac as well. DO NOT do that. If enough people do that we'll end up having a Mac app store walled garden powerful enough to extract its 30% tax.

Can you site any references to back that up? AppStore came out of iTunes and has always been part of services under Eddy Cue.
