Its OpenResearch's budget but OpenResearch is largely funded by Altmans personal donations.

superkuh is right, and this is the most misunderstood concept as it relates to general liberty.

If you think you're being compensated for your time, just remember, that they believe, over the course of time, your time is worth nothing.

Edit: To clarify - because your currency is worth nothing over time.

Well what's stopping you? According to the book The Most Fun I Never Want To Have Again: A Mid-Life Crisis in Community Banking, it is not that hard to get a bank off the ground. I would have expected that it would take millions, but it was less than that. Basically, you have to put in about $100k and find some other people to also do that. Next, you go with some official documents to the government and ask for permission to commence business.

Should be possible for anyone in about 2-10 years if you *really* want it.

I personally like how he is trying to think of a way to look after everyone if AI leads to large amounts of unemployment. I like the idea of basic income.

At the same time though. It's weird. he get's to play around with this money and I am guessing reduces his taxes at the same time?

I am sure there are some other wealthy people doing similar but for far less benign purposes.
