There currently isn't any alternative with similar traction. I use bsky, but it's a ghosttown.
What purpose does it actually serve for you? Just filling a hole in your attentional complex? The alternative is to do literally anything else.

Maybe it's just my circles but Mastodon is/feels pretty active. I certainly would not call it a ghost town.

Twitter as a business would probably be fine and cash flow positive, but it has a billion dollar annual debt servicing weighing it down.

You're literally ignoring the elephant in the room. ActivityPub based services are definitely not a ghost town. You should give mastodon a try.
I really want to hear from someone who is still at Twitter and hear their rationale for it.
