Also hilariously they mark stage 3 as "useful quantum computation" as in, none has happened yet. Because, no quantum computer actually exists yet.

I don't get the joke. Has Google ever said anything to imply their current quantum hardware can do anything useful?

You can simulate quantum mechanics with classical computers pretty well, as long as you stick to the copenhagen interpretation.

Feynman's lecture explains why classical computers are terrible at simulating quantum systems.

The basic problem is that the number of states grows exponentially with the size of the system. You very quickly have to start making approximations, and it takes an enormous amount of classical computing power and memory to handle even relatively small systems.

We currently can't even simulate a hydrogen atom.

The lack of knowledge and ignorance of quantum computing in this thread is incredible. Quantum computers do exist. They are extremely useful and do things that digital computers cannot do. Categorically cannot. The cynicism in this thread is crazy

As someone who has heard talk about Quantum Computers for over a decade now, and never seen a single actual application, I would be very interested if you could provide examples of where I could make use of them right now for things that I couldn't do with classical computers. If they "do exist" and "are extremely useful" then I believe you have exactly what I am asking in mind?

We can absolutely simulate the hydrogen atom. This paper lists the equations and fundamental constants that allow calculating the hydrogen energy levels with around 13 digits of accuracy: https://journals.aps.org/rmp/abstract/10.1103/RevModPhys.93....

"better". There currently isn't a practical way to brute force factor a 4k rsa key with classical computing. doesn't shor's algorithm on a quantum computer make that feasible? that would be a big driver for quantum computing though maybe my understanding is off.
