What this article or any other I've read on this topic doesn't tell me is-- what is this Lavender tool doing exactly? Facial recognition? Or something else? Is it choosing targets in real time based on incoming tracking of... vehicles? mobile phones? video? satellite imagery?

The caveats that the system has a "known 10% error rate" is almost laughable. For one, I assume that was an artificial target rate set by the funders of the system, that's being met based on completely artificial benchmark data. But whatever data it's based on, the situation in Gaza currently is so chaotic that whatever inputs it's using to make its "suggestions" are surely suboptimal.

Law allowing government to temporarily shut down Al Jazeera in Israel passed by Knesset https://www.timesofisrael.com/netanyahu-urges-knesset-to-pas...

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre on April 1 said the U.S. supports press freedoms

"So, as it relates to, and I think you're speaking specifically, at least the reports that we've seen is about Al Jazeera specifically. But it doesn't matter whichever, right? Journalists more broadly. But to those particular report, we've seen the reports, and certainly I'm going to refer to Israel for what they may or may not be considering.

But if it is true, if it is true, a move like this is concerning. We believe in the freedom of the press. It is critical. It is critically important. And the United States supports the critically important work journalists around the world do. And so, and that includes those who are reporting in the conflict in Gaza. So we believe that work is important. The freedom of the press is important. And if those reports are true, it is concerning to us."

The topic was the IDF’s policies of targeting homes and setting a quota of civilians that are acceptable to kill. Please don’t try to derail the conversation with whataboutism.

Chilling. Shutting down press is never a good sign, is it?

I guess I was considering the action of starving the entire region as evidence of intent.

Are you considering that in your imagination? In reality Gazans have plenty of food. At least when Hamas doesn't prevent them from getting it due to profiteering and supplying itself.
