It's a bit strange to find something worthwhile from my hometown of Huskvarna, Sweden (population ~24,000) to submit to HN, but apparently they've planned a software update that enables you to play DOOM on the lawnmower. If that isn't HN worthy, I don't know what is.

If you're ever in central Sweden, do plan a visit to the museum that is at the birthplace of Husqvarna (the company). The company has existed since at least 1757, older than the US itself and got started as a weapons factory, and the museum has a lot of interesting stuff from the early days.

> Sign-up closes on 26 August 2024. On September 9, 2024, a software update will remove DOOM from the robotic lawn mowers. They put DRM on a lawn mower.

So when that time comes I expect to see this mower on the frontpage again when an actual hacker does it, and then it will be much more interesting.

wasn't Doom's most basic weapon a chainsaw? if Doom is in a lawn mower.. i wonder what might be in a robotic chainsaw ..

Fitting in several ways since Husqvarna makes chainsaws, is a former major weapons manufacturer, and even has a rifle sight as the company logo.
