Selecting a link changes the URL. The back button takes you to the previous URL. They didn’t break the back button. Hijacking the back button is a real problem, but this ain’t it.

No matter how many times I clicked the back button it wouldn't let me return to hn. Its a terrible implementation.

no issues on laptop.. maybe a difference in mobile behavior?

Edit: the issue is that searching changes the URL via push state, once per character typed. I didn’t search so didn’t notice.

Also, searching scrolls back to the top on every character, which is jarring and frustrating.

Sorry for the frustration. The search won't push state anymore now. The search experience still should improve in the next version.
