A nice application for this might be places that have reservations that would be helpful if displayed. For example, tennis courts, squash courts, etc. People make the reservation online and, when they get to the facility, often don't remember which court they've reserved. Having it on a display would avoid having to look it up on the phone. Those sorts of places also might have a budget for something like this.

That's a good point - outdoor places would appreciate screens like this that you can see in the sun.

They are the ones being right. The real value is in MAKING/building those things. Not paying someone in perpetuity because they had a good idea once. Our system is completely corrupt and promotes exploitation of labor for the gains of a few peoples. It is absurd that we agree to pay some people ad vitam æternam just because they did decent work once. By the same standard, a manual worker achieving outstanding work that allows some project to work and meet expectations should be covered for life. But instead, he gets a tap on the back the "right" to go back and continue hard labor.

This is exactly how Apple got so rich. They "invent" and design hardware/software using a minimal amount of privileged well paid peoples and then go on and exploit cheap labor in a faraway country in order to sell the device with insane markup in their own county, very often to peoples who could have very much used a well-paid labor job.

China is making very clear an obvious fact: ideas, designs, concepts, and immaterial things like that only have value when they can be shared and executed upon. Making is where most of the valuable creation happens. Apple would be making zero dollar is it was only an idea of a device and not the actual very well-built device, enabled by China's workers...

My biggest issue with coat hangers - including this one - is that they are all thin so forget putting heavier shirts, sweaters, and especially jackets on them - they'll stretch out part of the shoulder and you have this visible piece of material sticking out when you put it on.

how thick would they need to be

So I've thought about the problem some more, and have my own idea.

You would still have a rod mounted a short distance from the wall, like the clothes hinger design, but a little further out. The rod for the clothes hinger has grooves that are perpendicular to the long axis of the rod.

But what if you cut the grooves at an angle instead, maybe 60 degrees. This would take up about the same distance out from the wall as the clothes hinger design, but slightly more wall space. This would be a factor for very constrained walls, but for the longer rods, the "overhead" would be insignificant. And it would only project out from the wall the same as the clothes hinger design (that's trigonometry!).

You would use a smaller diameter rod, so that with the grooves cut at an angle, the diameter is still sufficiently small enough to use a regular clothes hanger.

cough there is a common module with an esp32-s2 you can grab for 2EUR. Its cheaper than i can get a pro micro clone. look for "s2-mini" on Ali. I cannot fathom somebody still using an arduino nano.

I had stocked on 10-20 nanos from some years ago and was cycling through them but now that you said that I went and bought 10 esp32-s2s from aliexpress, thanks! I am planning to do 'advent of things' this year, where I will make something small every day until Christmas, hopefully the s2 minis will arrive before december :)

they are especially good for emulating USB-hid stuff - I have made several password and OTP emitting boxes with them.
