I read it, I thought it was needlessly rhetorical and deliberately argumentative. Not at all constructive conversation, more of a reddit 'gotcha' than anything. In short, I don't think you're being very honest with your intentions, it's a bad look and I'm sure you can do better :)

Interesting. I thought narrator's response was needlessly misogynistic - but I suppose it's easier to ignore that part of the argument and instead try to tell me what I really meant. I wonder if you can do better.

I just want to say that what you wrote in the second paragraph resonated with me a lot and I think I needed to read that right now. It seems obvious but I spend so much time worrying about the past and future, and the way you put it just crystallizes that notion that we really don't have as much control as we'd like.

We have to forgive our past selves and let our future selves handle whatever they have to handle - obviously not in a self destructive way but more like if I get cancer I'll have to deal with that, until then there's no point worrying about it.

But now I'm just rambling. Anyway, thank you.

And you think chronic, crippling loneliness can't make someone lose their will to live? If you don't know what tulpas are, there's an entire, fairly large online community of people willingly inducing schizophrenia in themselves just so they have an imaginary friend to talk to. Surely, AI companions would be a healthier alternative to that.

I think that opium doesn't cure loneliness.

The biggest challenge currently to GPT and LLMs is how to monetize it or get utility from it. It is fascinating but not reliable enough to be tasked with running say, tech support phone-trees. (Not that it has stopped godawful automated phone systems from being made before LLMs.)

People never take the lessons you want from history. The "contextual knowledge" is just happening to think the same way you do. It won't work to prevent it any more than knowledge of the Civil War would prevent Neoconfederate "Lost Causers".

Why do they deserve that? To be more explicit, why do some men deserve an "artificial intelligence girlfriend" that they "own and control", that "serves them"?

They don’t have to deserve that, it’s a product, they just need to afford that. Why do you deserve your phone?
