One way to say "none of your business" is to abandon their OS. Did so at the beginning of the year and haven't looked back. (Linux Mint on workstation; Debian 12 on laptop; Proton via Steam for games) The more I hear about the direction Microsoft is headed with their desktop software, the more it feels like a good call.

Why, i ask myself often, would people choose to evangelise products for free on behalf of corporations that literarily dont acknowledge their existence? Is it the same mental process that makes people idolise celebrities? A lack of belonging? A need to be a part of something bigger?
Why not simply choose a worthy cause? Why not evangelise freedom, privacy, and security focused, community driven, projects, and be a part of a community that not only needs you but appreciates you?

I'm sure some combination of incentives created this; I wonder which ones.
My bet is on both: - “Let’s make decisions based on metrics”, and - “Let’s gather even more metrics”. In any case it was not acting in the user’s best interest.
- Let's make decisions based on this $PROXY_METRIC for $IMPORTANT_BUSINESS_METRIC.
- People now have to paperclip-optimize $PROXY to get a promotion.
- $PROXY becomes less and less reflecting of $IMPORTANT_BUSINESS_METRIC.

No, it's malice. No one who gets into such a position can be that unaware. Malice comes in small ways too, not caring how your shitty design impacts people is a form of malice.
If a single person in an organization does something malicious, question them.
If many people in an organization do something malicious, question the incentives.

Every time I have to do a new Windows install, where they now force you into entering a Microsoft account, they get a new account added to their database that is some variation of [InsertSwearHere]@[MoreSwears].com so I can finish the install, create a local account, and delete the forced account from the machine.
You should just prepare an autounattend.xml to automate the install and be able to skip the OOBE wizard entirely - including the forced online account creation.
Yeah, I know I can even use rufus to burn the ISO and get rid of that stuff for me. But it's easy enough for me to just do it this way.

#260It looks like windows is just a store for Microsoft products nowadays. While having the majority of the OEM devices with windows, MS are really pushing their services and subscriptions on the users. And they do it the M$ way,the most annoying and mischievous way. Personally, I have one laptop with Win11 pro, for playing a couple of games. The pro edition should be for professionals, right? Nope, it's the same annoying and intrusive experience as the home edition. Screw it. I have other laptop with Pop_OS, a world of difference. My work laptop has Mac OS, and I'm really surprised how apple is so much less intrusive and annoying than Microsoft. Don't have an Apple ID? No problem, you can use your PC, we are not asking/begging every 3 days to create one. You aren't using any apple apps? Sure, you can install and use what you want, we will not cry and appeal to your emotional side. Wait? You installing Google chrome? Go ahead, just install like another app. Just change the default browser, with no questions, just 2 clicks. That simple. Windows looks like the android version of Chinese brands, full of ads and preloaded with bloatware, really.
