Earlier quoted context omitted.

> Isn't that supposed to be a positive mark? As long as it is positive to the person who writes your cheques, does it matter? Six to twelve months after you've left, that 'feature' is unceremoniously killed, like so many of these little features in Windows has over the years, such as Active Desktop -- who didn't want a webpage embedded as their desktop?

> As long as it is positive to the person who writes your cheques, does it matter? I guess that depends on whether or not you value taking pride in your work.

If you can afford to make that call, more power to you. Most people can't -- most are told what to do.

maybe I am on an old version, but I dont get that at all. here is my info: OneDrive version: Build 23.214.1015.0001 (64-bit) if I try to close, I get: Are you sure you want to close OneDrive? If you close OneDrive, files in your OneDrive folder won't sync with your files online. [Close OneDrive][Cancel]

I am on 23.226... and I didn't get any questionnaire. I got the same message as you. I am on Win 11 Enterprise though. Maybe that makes a difference? Some times I wonder about these hyper ventilating posts about the latest stupid thing Microsoft changed. Their changes never seem to roll down to me.

The newer versions of Windows seem to care less and less about what the user prefers. This is emblematic in the message boxes that offer a choice between Yes and Not Now/Maybe Later. It takes real effort to make Windows accept a No.

These are showing up more and more in macOS and iOS as well. Absolutely infuriating. UX designed by marketers.

Anyone here work at Microsoft that can explain how anyone at the company thought this was a good idea? Seriously. I'm genuinely confused. MS never had the best UI (hello MS Word toolbars) but those happened over time through attrition and added features. This is one of many intentional user-hostile experiences.

I think you answered your own question with the admission that is one of many intentional user-hostile experiences. Most people put up with the other stuff so why would they stop?

I'm sure some combination of incentives created this; I wonder which ones.

My bet is on both:

- “Let’s make decisions based on metrics”, and

- “Let’s gather even more metrics”.

In any case it was not acting in the user’s best interest.

Providing close reason is ridiculous. Don't think this would be technical guys at work, rather some marketing or someone who wants some stats.

But nudging in direction/reminding of backups at appropriate times - I actually applaud it. Let people think about it for a while.

Strange that data corruption [1] is not offered as one of the options :) [1] https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/msoffice/forum/all/onedr...

That's because these options are designed by someone in sales/marketing and not by anyone who cares about the user's experience. Including any option that implies that OneDrive is not perfect might "damage the brand".
